We’ve been M.I.A over the last sixteen weeks while we have been soaking in that newborn deliciousness. Our beautiful Emilia was born on the nineteenth of July via scheduled caesarean. This is my second caesarean birth and was a much more complicated recovery than my first one. Sixteen weeks later and still not fully there yet, but I believe that is to be expected after caesarean birth.

Having it scheduled this time around did make the experience more “enjoyable” – I say this loosely. If I could go back I would definitely have tried for a VBAC.

Zara meeting Emilia

Zara had been waiting for what felt like an eternity for her little sister to arrive. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 the hospital was not allowing anyone other than your support person to visit. Her little dream of visiting us in hospital could not happen no matter how hard we tried. Instead I had to be alone ninety percent of the time I was there, which is tough!

After Emilia and I passed all the tests we were rushed out the door. The idea that a caesarean birth is treated the same as a vaginal birth for your hospital stay is absurd. As soon as the car pulled up at home I could hear her calling down in emotional excitement from the front door. Emilia had an intense love poured all over her from her big sister. Zara meeting Emilia was exactly how I pictured the moment, even if it was at home instead of the hospital.

Now that our little family is complete we can’t wait for the world to open up again and hopefully be able take our girls on some adventures and meet family abroad.
