Deciding not to waste another day off together we hopped in the car and headed for Toowoomba. Located in the Darling Downs region of Queensland, Australia, the city of Toowoomba is a 90 minute drive from the Brisbane city area.
Known as ‘The Garden City’ Toowoomba has over 150 public parks and gardens, and also hosts the ‘Carnival of Flowers’. On a more historic note the city is also known for the Cobb and Co Museum, with its horse drawn carriages.
How to spend a day in Toowoomba
- Why not start your day in the city center itself. Walk amongst the old buildings and spot some of the amazing street art that has gone up around the streets and alley ways.
- Eat lunch at a little hole in the wall cafe. We ate at ‘The Finch’, which has an Asian infusion vibe to some of their dishes. Very delicious and filling.
- Visit the Churches. Toowoomba has some amazing old Churches to be appreciated for their architecture.
- Visit the Botanic Gardens. Located in Queens Park and across the road from the Cobb and Co Museum. If you are there in September you will be treated with their “Carnival of Flowers’ (this is on my to-do list).
- Cobb and Co Museum. Admire the historic horse-drawn carriages and learn about their importance to the city.
- Do a walk at Picnic Point or simply admire the views over the Lockyer Valley.
- Finish the day off with a nice cold one at the Picnic Point Cafe before you head home.
There is so much to do in Toowoomba City and the surrounding towns itself. If you have the time why not stay for a night or two, so you can really explore what the Darling Downs region has to offer.
Have you ever been to Toowoomba? If so, what was the highlight from your visit?
